“Don’t buy into the 20-hours-a-day entrepreneur myth. You need to sleep 8 hours a day to have a focused mind.”James Altucher, Angel Investor, Hedgefund Manager, Author, and Podcaster
In this post I focus on Relaxium ingredients and the quality of the product. Does it do the job? Or is it another sleep aid that just doesn’t cut it?
All entrepreneurs need to sleep, right? If you’re anything like me, you’ll know how tough it can be to get the kind of sleep experience that means you jump out of bed with energy in the morning. In fact, some nights might not bring much sleep at all. In the United States, nearly 70% of Americans have some form of sleep disorder.
I’m obsessed with getting better sleep because it helps me function better the next day. Recently, I became intrigued with the possibiilty of using natural sleep aids. I’ve tried teas and oils already, all with natural ingredients. Some are good, some are bad.
In this post I’m going to dive into Relaxium, a sleep supplement that promises restful sleep without that heavy feeling you might get from a prescription drug.
Relaxium ingredients are made up of only natural products, which to me is a good sign that this is exactly the kind of sleep aid I’m looking for.
Can Relaxium help you get a better night’s sleep? Well, the bottle seems to think it can. It states that Relaxium can help you:
- Fall asleep 140% faster
- Sleep 286% longer without interruption
- Wake feeling 69% more refreshed
- Experience 80% better concentration
Let’s take a closer look.

What is Relaxium?
Relaxium is a natural sleep aid. It was created by Dr. Eric Ciliberti and has been designed to give you better sleep quality. It is sold as a dietary supplement that is non habit forming and full of only natural ingredients. When it comes to drug administration, you take it as two capsules per day with a glass of water.
Dr. Ciliberti is a renowned neurologist and sleep expert. He has over 30 years of experience in medicine. The clinical neurologist gained his medical degrees from leading universities like Georgetown and Tulane. He created Relaxium using state of the art technology, with his focus on combining natural ingredients that promote stress relief.
He is founder of the American Behavioral Research Institute. Last year Relaxium was in the INC 5000 top companies list. After receiving news of the company being included, Ciliberti said:
“I’m proud of what our team has achieved so far in helping so many suffering from these common enemies, sleeplessness and mood disorders. Our receiving this recognition inspires us even more to help everyone who is anxious and sleep-deprived in America”
Inside Relaxium are eight main ingredients (which we will get into shortly) that are both proven to promote a good night’s sleep and restore your circadian rhythms.
Inside our brain is a central clock that synchronises with the various systems and processes in our body. The internal clock runs all of the essential processes and systems, and is itself guided by what is happening in our environment. Sleep is run via a circadian rhythm, responding to day and night cues (light and darkness). This particular rhythm of sleeping and waking is otherwise known as the sleep/wake cycle.
It all runs to the rhythm of that internal clock. Insomniacs and people who have disturbed sleep are outside their natural sleep cycle, and therefore have a disrupted circadian rhythm. Healthy sleep patterns can be restored through lifestyle changes and the use of natural sleep aids like Relaxium.
Does it work?
Relaxium Sleep does contain a number of ingredients as part of a revolutionary formula that has been shown to help deliver a good night’s sleep. The ingredients help to promote a good and healthy sleep cycle and have been shown to help produce melatonin.
Melatonin is the hormone produced by your body to induce sleep. Melatonin also reduces cortisol levels. Cortisol can increase stress and anxiety, which obviously affects regular sleep patterns.
When it comes to the efficacy of Relaxium ingredients, Melatonin has been proven to reduce dopamine levels, and this promotes restful sleep. You also have magnesium in Relaxium, and that helps to reduce stress levels too.
Other ingredients include:
- Gamma-amino butyric acid (GBA)
- Chamomile extract
- Passionflower extract
All of these ingredients are non-habit forming when taking the recommended dose, and have been proven to help improve your quality and duration of sleep.
Relaxium ingredients in detail
Here is a full list of all the ingredients in Relaxium Sleep:
- Magnesium (100 mg)
- L-tryptophan (500 mg)
- Melatonin 5 (mg)
- Ashwagandha (125 mg)
- Chamomile extract (75 mg)
- Passionflower extract (75 mg)
- Valerian extract (228.9 mg)
- Hops (228.9 mg)
- GABA (100 mg)
Relaxium Sleep contains 100 mg of magnesium per serving. Magnesium has been proven to help bring about an improvement in the quality of sleep.
Is magnesium good for sleep? There’s some research that shows magnesium supplements can:
- Boost your sleep duration.
- Enhance your sleep quality.
- Get a good night’s sleep by reducing restless legs syndrome symptoms.
It’s safe to take magnesium supplements, but some medications might interfere with them. Consult your doctor before using them. When it comes to how long it takes before you see the effects, you’ll get the most benefit from magnesium if you take it consistently for a long time. Some people see sleep benefits after a week. For others it can take up to three months for real benefits to be appreciated.
GABA is a neurotransmitter that blocks nerve impulses. GABA deficiency may cause:
- Disorders of anxiety or mood
- The development of epilepsy
- Chronic pain problems
Some researchers think GABA boosts mood or relaxes the nervous system.
In addition to helping you fall asleep, GABA also helps you sleep soundly at night. An experiment on 13 adults found GABA to be relaxing and anxiety-relieving.
Relaxium ingredients include chamomile, which because of its chemical structure, makes you sleepy. Plant extracts contain apigenin, a chemical compound that binds to the brain’s GABA receptors and makes you sleepy. They’re also the receptors that bind to benzodiazepines, the anti-anxiety drugs that have a calming impact.
Another of the natural ingredients in Relaxium, Passionflower has been proven to induce a relaxed feeling. It boosts GABA levels in the brain, which helps to relax you and therefore can really help to improve your sleep.
It’s an essential amino acid that turns into serotonin and melatonin, which helps you sleep. According to another study among the elderly, those who ate high-tryptophan cereal slept longer and better.
Valerest proprietary blend
It’s a well-known herbal sleep aid that helps people sleep quickly. Traditionally, it’s used for insomnia, restlessness, and anxiety. Valerian root extract is present in Relaxium sleep at a concentration of 228.9 mg per tablet. Valerian extract is widely seen as one of the best ingredients to help promote deep sleep.
Your body makes the hormone melatonin naturally. Natural levels of melatonin control your sleep patterns. Sleep problems (insomnia) can be treated with man made melatonin. Falling asleep faster and waking up less at night is the result. Jet lag symptoms can also be relieved by the use of melatonin supplements.
Relaxium ingredients: Ashwagandha
Since ancient times, Ashwagandha has been used in Ayurvedic medicine to make people feel relaxed. Plus, it helps you lose weight and promotes healthy sleep.
Ashwagandha reduces anxiety and promotes relaxation. In 2019 a clinical study showed it could possibly reduce insomnia.
According to the manufacturers of the product, Relaxium Sleep should start bringing benefits the day after you start using it. You should find that the medication does the following for you after a few days of usage:
- You will find it easier to fall and stay asleep
- It will be much easier to achieve deeper sleep
- You will feel that you have improved mood and a more balanced mood
- There will be less inflammation and pain in your body
- You will find yourself waking in the morning to feel energized and refreshed
- You will experience overall better digestion
- You will have a stronger immune system

Sleep problems affect many people. Sleep issues can fall into the following categories:
This is where you have difficulty getting to sleep. You can also suffer from insomnia if you wake up too early and find it hard to get back to sleep. Your health care provider will make a diagnosis of Insomnia (known as primary insomnia) but they will look at other aspects of your lifestyle before they identify the problem. If you have a serious insomnia problem then your physician will create a treatment plan.
Restless legs syndrome
You may experience lack of sleep due to a creeping sensation in your legs. This sensation can only be relieved by moving or shaking your legs. Your healthcare provider will offer a treatment plan if this problem is serious.
More than 18 million Americans have sleep apnea.National Sleep Foundation
This is a sleep disorder that can seriously reduce your chances of a good night’s sleep. Sufferers will ‘gasp’ or snort during sleep, waking themselves up. They may also find that they have excessive tiredness in the daytime. Many suffererers have found that essential oils such as Lavender and Marjoram can help.
Sleep disorders are identified and treated by physicians. Chronic insomnia, for example, is a medical condition that means reduced hours of sleep and potential sleep deprivation. It will be treated accordingly after you seek professional medical advice.
Potential side effects of Relaxium ingredients
Sleep aids work differently for different people. Sometimes this means that there are side effects due to the Relaxium ingredients mix. It is important to remember that there are numerous natural ingredients in Relaxium, but that the vast majority are in low doses.
One side effect has been nausea. Some people who take Relaxium also talk about feeling tired during the day. The active ingredients can cause these problems for certain people. It is recommended that you seek medical advice with any sleep aid usage.
Relaxium sleep aid should not be taken with any other medications (including over the counter sleep aid options) until you have had a full discussion with your health care professional. You may have some existing health conditions that could cause adverse effects when used alongside Relaxium.
For some people GABA can bring one of the more serious side effects. Some patients have spoken about muscle weakness. While this is not necessarily damaging, it can be very unpleasant. Alongside that muscle weakness, GABA can have other effects on the human body. Upset stomachs and headaches can be side effects. If you do experience side effects like these consult your medical professional.
The passionflower problem
Passionflower can also bring side effects. While it can contribute to a good night’s sleep it can also cause drowsiness during the day. Some patients have also complained of confusion and cognitive impairment during the day too.
If you suffer from seasonal allergies then you may well have problems with Relaxium, including:
- Stuffy or itchy nose
- Shortness of breath or tightness of the chest
- Rash (hives)
- Swollen lips, tongue, or mouth
- Gastrointestinal issues (nausea, diarrhea)
- Dry or cracked skin
Some of the more serious side effects can be present in patients who already take antidepressant medication. They could find themselves developing a potentially dangerous condition known as Seratonin Syndrome. Elderly patients can also be vulnerable to the same symptoms.
The symptoms are:
- Extreme anxiety
- Rapid or irregular heartbeat
- Severe muscle spasms
- Easily startled
- Fever or increased body temperature
Side effects are not a problem for everyone. An effective dose of Relaxium contains the highest quality ingredients and has been shown to help bring a deeper sleep. For some people though, the product is just not the right solution. Before you take Relaxium consult your doctor. Be mindful of the ingredients. If you are allergic to any of them you should not take Relaxium for a sleep solution.
One thing to note: if you are taking any other sleep aid medication (including prescription medications) you will need to talk to your doctor about the best course of action. And please bear in mind that the product is only intended for short-term use. Taking anything for sleep should always be on a limited time basis.

The best ways to promote healthy sleep
Making Relaxium Sleep part of your daily routine is not the only way to promote a natural sleep-wake cycle. Try the following tips for your lifestyle:
- Creating a sleep schedule
- Reducing stress and anxiety at night
- Getting plenty of physical activity during the day (getting tired helps you to sleep)
- Avoiding stimulants including caffeine and nicotine
- Practicing mindfulness and meditation on a daily basis
- Eliminating phones and other tech from the bedroom
- Reserving your bedroom for sleep only
- Creating a comfortable, relaxing bedroom to sleep in
- Reducing noise and light disturbances (some people even buy black out curtains)
Some of the ingredients in Relaxium Sleep have been shown to be ineffective at that particular dose. For example, Magnesium is often highlighted as a Relaxium ingredient that isn’t represented enough. A recent study found that Magnesium can promote better sleep, but the dosage in the study was over 3 times as large as the one found in Relaxium.
Then we come to I-tryptophan. Again, that is viewed as underdosed in Relaxium.
However, as I said earlier, it’s all about how it interacts with your body. Each individual will have a different reaction.
Here’s how it went for me.
There was no immediate impact. Relaxium has claimed that the first night on the stuff would be a night that saw improvements in sleeping. This was not the case for me. However, I will say it calmed me and made me feel more relaxed.
After two weeks I started to experience a deeper sleep. Not waking up in the night was a real bonus for me and a vast improvement on just a couple of weeks earlier.
Overall, I’m not feeling groggy during the daytime (four weeks in) and I am generally sleeping better and for longer. I’m a little wary of relying on them so I’ll have a review in a few days time.
While I didn’t experience any significant side effects, I know a friend who has. His were unpleasant enough to make him stop using the sleep aid. Consult with your doctor for the best course of action if you are worried about side effects.
Finally, the price is an issue. There are plenty of more affordable sleep aids on the market. And my tips on how to get a good night’s sleep the natural way are completely free.
To sum up, it is working for me. But I think the price and the potential side effects should cause you to investigate other products and methods.
Don’t forget though, that you can have a free trial to see if it is a good fit for you.
